Gotik Rock

Gotik rock, 1970'lerin sonlarında ortaya çıkmış bir rock türüdür. Gothic rock ve goth rockolarak da adlandırılır. Bu müzik türü aslen İngiliz punk rock ve post-punk akımlarının önderliğinde ortaya çıktı. Gotik rock, karanlık temalar, gothic horror gibi entelektüel, romantizm, varoluşçuluk ve nihilizm akımlarıyla uğraşır. Saygın grupların başında Bauhaus, The Cure, Siouxsie & the Banshees, The Sisters of Mercy and The Mission gibi isimler gelir. Bu müzik türü gotik kulüpler, gotik moda, ve gotik dergileri beraberinde getiren yaygın gotik alt kültürüne yol açmıştır.

Tarz
Gotik rock'ta gitar tonları genellikle elektronik efektlerle birlikte kullanılır. Elektro gitar, bas gitar, bateri, solo gitar kullanılır; ama diğer rock türlerinden kendisini ayıran özelliği ise ek olarak drum machine ve synthesizer enstrümanlarının kullanılmasıdır.
