 Placebo (Placebo Kimdir? - Placebo Hakkında) Placebo Grup için her şey 1980 yılında başladı.. İkisi de 8 yaşlarında olan Brian ve Stefan, Lüksemburg'da Amerikalı çocukların gittiği bir okulda eğitim görüyorlardı. Brian, o yaşlarında istediği arkadaşlıkları kuramamış ve çocukluğunun uzun bir dönemini bu anlamda yalnız geçirmişti. En büyük hayali sağlam dostlar edinip Londra'ya gitmekti.. Yıllar sonra okul bittiğinde, Brian ve Stefan Londra'ya taşındı. Ancak aralarında herhangi bir arkadaşlık ilişkisi yoktu. 1994 yılında bir gün, Manş Tüneli'nin çıkışında karşılaştılar ve uzun süre sohbet ettiler. O günün akşamında Brian'ın evinde müzik yapmaya karar vermeleri, Placebo için atılan ilk adımdı belki de... Stefan, Brian'ın gitar çalışına ve vokaltarzına hayran kalmıştı. İki genç, müzik grubu kurma planları yapmaya başlamış, tek eksiklerinin iyi bir baterist olduğuna karar vermişlerdi. Daha önce Stefan ile birlikte çalışan ve perküsyon okumak için Londra'da bulunan İsviçre asıllı Robert Schultzberg'i de aralarına alarak "Ashtray Heart" adlı bir grup kurdular. Brian, grubun kurulmasından önce tiyatro okuyordu. Daha sonra fikrini değiştirerek müzik yapmaya ve tüm çalışmalarını gruba yoğunlaştırmaya karar verdi. Kısa süre içinde topluluk, kimlik değişikliğine gitti ve bugün tüm dünyanın tanıdığı o büyülü isme karar verildi: "Placebo". (Placebo, bir tıp terimi... Bazı hastalar etkisiz bile olsa bazı ilaçların faydası olacağına inanırlar. Bunlar hastanın ikna edilemediği durumlarda onu rahatlatmak için verilen orjinal görünümde sahte ilaçlardır. İşte bu ilaçlara placebo adı veriliyor. Ayrıca placebo, Latince'de "mutlu edeceğiz" anlamına da geliyor. Peki grubun, müzikseverleri tam anlamıyla mutlu edip etmediğini merak ediyor musunuz? Devam edin!) Önceleri Art Rock'tan başlayan tarzları, sonradan Punk ve New Wave'e kaymaya başladı. Brian Molko'nun dikkat çeken dış görünümü de, müziklerinin yanısıra imajlarıyla da dikkat çekeceklerinin göstergesi gibiydi. Fierce Panda Kayıt Şirketi tarafından 1995'te yayınlanan single "Bruise Pristine" ile, müzikseverlere ilk çalışmalarını sunmanın mutluluğunu yaşadılar. "Bruise Pristine", Michael Stipe, Bono, David Bowie, Marilyn Manson gibi önemli isimlerin dikkatini çekti. Bu durum, topluluğun büyük şirketlerle anlaşma yolunu açtı. Deceptive Kayıt Şirketi etiketini taşıyan ve grupla aynı ismi taşıyan 1996 çıkışlı "Placebo" albümü, ilk ticari başarıları oldu. Tabii bunda, ünlü yapımcı Brad Wood'un da payı büyüktü.. Katıldıkları ilk büyük organizasyon, David Bowie'nin 50. doğumgününde sergiledikleri canlı performanstı... Konserin ardından albüm satışları arttı ve turneler birbirini izledi. "Nancy Boy" adlı single çalışması, İngiltere listelerinde 4 numaraya kadar yükselmiş, Brian Molko'nun marjinal görünümü, dergi kapaklarına yansımaya başlamıştı. Bir süre sonra Brian ve Stefan ikilisi ile Robert arasında bazı anlaşmazlıklar çıktı. Bu durumun gerektirdiği yeni baterist arayışı, Breed isimli toplulukta çalan ve Molko'nun büyük hayranlık duyduğu Steve Hewitt'in teklifi kabul etmesiyle son buldu. Steve ile kaydettikleri "Without You I'm Nothing" albümü, 1998 yılında raflardaki yerini aldı. Albümden çıkan "Pure Morning" ve "You Don't Care About Us" adlı çalışmalar, İngiltere listelerinin zirvesini uzun süre meşgul etti. Brian Molko, şarkı yazma konusundaki yeteneğini geliştirmiş, grubun başarılarının yanında kişisel olarak da büyük ilerleme kaydetmişti. Placebo, Michael Stipe tarafından yapılan "Velvet Goldmine" filminin birkaç sahnesinde yer aldı. Bu film, öncülüğünü Mark Bolan'ın yaptığı ve David Bowietarafından uzun süre geçerliliğini korumuş olan glam rock tarzının çıkışı üzerine yapılmıştı. Son yıllarda çıkmış en iyi glam imaja sahip olan Placebo, bu film için gerçekten çok iyi bir seçimdi. Bu arada David Bowie ile olan bağları kopmadı. 1999'da İngiltere'nin en önemli müzik ödüllerinden biri olan Brit Awards'un töreninde aynı sahnede Trex'in "20th Century Boy"unu yorumladılar. O yılın yazında "Without You I'm Nothing"in yeni versiyonunu kaydettiler. 2000 yılının ortalarında ise "Black Market Music" adlı albümleri, dünyaca ünlü Virgin Kayıt Şirketi etiketiyle piyasaya çıktı. Bu albümdeki "Taste In Men", hem müziği, hem de sözleriyle şimşekleri üzerine çekti. Fakat bu tepkiler, Avrupa'dan Rusya'ya uzanan bir turnenin başarılı geçmesine engel olamadı. Hatta turnenin bir ayağı da Türkiye'deydi.. Topluluk, ülkemizde de büyük ilgi gördü. | |

Cvp: Placebo   the powerful placebo challenged The powerful effect of the placebo is not in doubt. It should be, however, according to Danish researchers Asbjørn Hróbjartsson and Peter C. Götzsche. Their meta-study of 114 studies involving placebos found "little evidence in general that placebos had powerful clinical effects...[and]...compared with no treatment, placebo had no significant effect on binary outcomes, regardless of whether these outcomes were subjective or objective. For the trials with continuous outcomes, placebo had a beneficial effect, but the effect decreased with increasing sample size, indicating a possible bias related to the effects of small trials ("Is the Placebo Powerless? An Analysis of Clinical Trials Comparing Placebo with No Treatment," The New England Journal of Medicine, May 24, 2001 (Vol. 344, No. 21)." According to Dr. Hróbjartsson, professor of medical philosophy and research methodology at University of Copenhagen, "The high levels of placebo effect which have been repeatedly reported in many articles, in our mind are the result of flawed research methodology."* This claim flies in the face of more than fifty years of research.
