Before doing the steps, make sure that you sign out of Windows Live Messenger and make sure that it is no longer running, to verify:

• Right click on the Messenger icon on the system tray
• Click EXIT

A. Change the Microsoft Windows Explorer settings. To do this, use one of the following methods:
1. With your mouse, right-click the Start button, and then click Explore to open Windows Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
3. On the View tab, in the Advanced settings list, select Show hidden files and folders under Hidden Files and Folders.
4. Clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box.
5. Click OK to close the Folder Options window.

B. Delete the Contacts Cache
a. Click Start, click Run, type %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\ and then press Enter. Delete the contents of the IdentityCRL folder.
b. Click Start, click Run, type %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\ and then press Enter. Delete the IdentityCRL folder.
c. Click Start, click Run, type %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\ and then press Enter. Delete the Windows Live Contacts folder.
d. Click Start, click Run, type %USERPROFILE%\ and then press Enter. Delete the Contacts folder.

Note: Leave the step d if you cannot find the Contacts Folder.

Adjust the Internet Explorer security settings:
1. Clear the Check for server certificate revocation option in Internet Explorer:
a. Start Internet Explorer.
b. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
c. Click the Advanced tab.
d. Under Security, clear the Check for Server certificate revocation (requires restart) check box.
e. Click OK.

2. Sign in to MSN Messenger again.
