İngilizce ' de ‘yapabilmek’ fiilinin karşılığı can, olumsuz hali de can’t dır.
Can ve can’t fiilden önce gelerek, öznenin fiili yapabildiğini veya yapamadığını belirtir.

• I can speak English, but I can’t speak Italian.
• My sister can play the piano, but I can’t.(=I can’t play the piano)
• I can dance but I can’t sing.
• He is a baby, he can’t talk.

-->Aşağıdaki örneklerde can izin verme/isteme,can’t ise izin vermemek anlamına gelir.

• Can you help me, please?
• Can I have a ticket to London?
• A: Can I go out?
• B : No you can’t. You have homework.
• You can’t smoke here.
