Hawaiian-born Alani Ryan was a prolific and talented surfer before her mutant nature manifested and she became the target of anti-mutant sentiments. Sent to the Xavier Institute, Ryan was placed in the Alpha Squadron training squad. Somewhat shy and reserved, Ryan has proved to be a good student, except for Chemistry, which she dislikes. Preferring open countryside to big cities, it seems Ryan prefers to sunbathe and surf rather than be caught up in the ongoing human/mutant situation. Her mutant power does make her a potentially dangerous threat, should she ever be coerced into action.
